Volunteers

Volunteers are the backbone of our grassroots football community. Football is extremely fortunate to have tens of thousands of capable, hard-working and dedicated volunteers working on field and off field to support the 500,000 players who play football week in, and week out in the community.

It is becoming extremely challenging for clubs to identify new  volunteers. At the same time they are under ever increasing pressure to cope with growing participant numbers and regulatory demands, with resources that are becoming proportionally smaller year on year.

FFA is committed to supporting volunteers in community clubs, and provides assistance to clubs through this section to reward and recognize, recruit, retain and develop Volunteers.

Trevor Kirk2009 Australian Football Award
Volunteer of the Year:

Trevor Kirk Gympie, Queensland

Without dedicated volunteers like Trevor our game could not function at a grass roots level.

Trevor has been a volunteer for almost three decades, has been an integral part of Football Gympie Inc and has been involved in almost every role there is to play in a community football organization.

Trevor was instrumental in developing the plans to build the complex at One Mile football fields starting with canteen, toilets, change rooms and equipment sheds to first-aid room, referees room and grandstand seating.

All of these improvements were made a reality thanks to the initiative of Trevor, whose vision and belief in the popularity of football contributed significantly to the growth of football in the Sunshine Coast area. The  Gympie region now boasts 1400 players, including 400 female players.

During 2000, Trevor in conjunction with Queensland Education, made Friday football available to children with a disability. This has grown into regular Saturday games. Based on this success, four years later the Special Olympics Gympie Region was created with football the first nominated sport. Now other codes are also actively involved with the program. Trevor’s passion and love of the game can be seen through all his initiatives.
